Concrete Driveways Coquitlam

Coquitlam's Best Driveway Builder

Driveway Ideas

Over our 25 Years Plus of pouring concrete driveways we have poured many combinations of driveway styles and textures. We evolve with the times and pay attention to current trends in the concrete finishing industry advising our clients on best finishes for there criteria and budget.

Below are choices of most of our most popular finishes and brief descriptions of each.  We also have a projects section which describes the driveway process in more detail on various driveway projects. These are all projects we have completed start to finish.

Removal Of Existing Concrete

We are frequently contacted to remove an existing driveway. We are fully equipped to demolish concrete driveways, transport them to a recycling facility, and repurpose them as a new foundation for future concrete work. Rather than hiring a separate concrete demolition contractor, save money and time by letting us handle everything.

Driveway Forming

We construct driveways to withstand the test of time, which is why all of our driveways are built to the highest of standards. We begin by laying down a 4-inch-thick plus gravel base. We always use rebar and never mesh, so if your driveway cracks, it won’t separate because the rebar will keep it together for the rest of its life cycle. We only use top-of-the-line air-entrained concrete mixes. To add additional protection, we recommend using one of our driveway sealers.

Modern Driveway Styles

A contemporary concrete driveway generally has a smooth finish with evenly spaced saw cuts. A modern driveway may include gaps between the slabs to allow for grass growth, or it may have stones or even artificial grass between slabs. The modern driveway finish can be lightly textured using an acid wash, a light sandblast, or a light wash. For more information on contemporary style driveways, please visit our driveways section.

Float Finish Driveways

The float finish concrete driveway’s rough texture makes it a safe yet decorative concrete finish. The float finish is a random appearance that is ideal for individuals who prefer a less formal and linear appearance than the broom finish. Float finish driveways are comparable to broom finish driveways in terms of price and are frequently saw cut rather than hand cut to incorporate decorative elements. Concrete borders can be added to concrete driveways with a float finish.

Float Finish with Borders

Concrete driveways with bordered float finish are more expensive than a standard float finish. Any of our other finishes or colours can be used for the border if desired. Borders can be monolithic or poured separately depending on the size and design. The driveway should be sealed with concrete sealer, as we recommend for all of our concrete.

Decorative Concrete Combinations

Concrete driveway combinations provide all of the above options in any combination and design you can think of, and they are extremely durable. The design of the driveway is just as important as the materials used in its construction. The ultimate goal is for the two of them to have a perfect marriage. Colors are virtually limitless, and the patterns and finishes are only limited by your own imagination and design skills. The specifications for each decorative concrete driveway that we construct are specific to our customers’ needs and desires.

Broom Finish

The broom finish driveway is the most common type of driveway that we pour at our company. It is possible to achieve this finish by running a horsehair broom across the concrete surface just before the final set is achieved. During the winter months, the broom finish concrete driveway provides excellent slip resistance. If desired, integral colour can be added to the design.

Wave Broom Finish Concrete

This driveway finish is very similar to the traditional broom finish except that the broom is pulled up and down with each pass, creating a wave pattern. This concrete driveway provides all of the benefits of a traditional broom finish driveway while also being more affordable. The wave finish was once very popular, but it is now considered a traditional style.

Pattern Stamped Driveways

Concrete Driveways with Stamped Concrete are available in a wide variety of designs and colours. Stamped concrete resembles stone, slate, and wood. Numerous colours are available to achieve high-quality, realistic results. Each stamped concrete driveway is customised to your specifications. When stamped concrete is completed, it is sealed to protect it from the elements and to improve its appearance. In the winter, caution should be exercised to avoid salting and icing these driveways; they are the most expensive type of driveway and should be protected.

Light Sandblast Driveways

The Concrete Driveway with a Light Sandblast is created by sandblasting or lightly washing the surface. If sandblasting is not feasible, a light sandblast effect can be achieved by washing the driveway. We have depth-controlled concrete surface retarders for light washes. This driveway has a shallow retardation depth, exposing only the sand in the concrete matrix; this concrete finish contains no aggregate.

Acid Stain Driveways

The Acid Stain Concrete Driveway is truly unique. After approximately 30 days, acid stain is applied to the concrete driveway. Driveways that are going to be acid stained should be free of spills and other stains; oil stains, for example, can degrade the quality of subsequent acid staining. Each time, the acid stains react with the concrete, resulting in a one-of-a-kind work of art. Acid-stained concrete driveways exhibit a warm earthy hue and are typically sealed with a high gloss sealer.

Exposed Aggregate Driveways

The exposed aggregate concrete driveway is one of the most popular decorative concrete driveways in the city. When sealed, the exposed rock provides a beautiful decorative surface for the wet and cold winters. Winter maintenance is still necessary, even if the area has already been exposed. Driveways made of Exposed Aggregate Concrete can be coloured to match the colour scheme of the house or to serve as an accent piece.

Exposed Aggregate with Borders

Many custom homes feature driveways with exposed aggregate concrete. Any of the finishes above or below, as well as mortared natural stone or brick borders, we pour a sunken rough slab border for those mortared options. One of the more expensive options for a driveway is one that features exposed aggregate and border combinations. Spray paint is a common and effective tool for experimenting with border designs before they are actually formed.

Stamped Concrete and Borders

Stamped concrete driveways with borders are an additional high-end option for driveways made of concrete. Combining these two items creates a wide range of options. Color hardeners can be either integral or topical. Natural rock and stone effects can be created using up to eight different colours from our extensive colour range. Prior to or after the main body, depending on the desired finish, borders are poured.

Concrete Sealing

In terms of concrete work, driveways take the most abuse. Keep your driveway free of salt and other ice melt products to avoid damage. Don’t let your car drip these corrosive liquids and oil onto it, because most stains are nearly impossible to remove from your new driveway.
Regular sealer application will keep your driveway protected and beautiful for many years to come. All of our customers can take advantage of our maintenance services, which ensure the longevity of their investment.
